For Chris Jenkins, practicing architecture is as much about the individuals that come together to design and build the project as it is about the building itself. For nearly 25 years, Chris has been in the design and construction industry, working to create structures that range from single-family homes to landmark commercial and institutional projects.
When Chris determined as a young college student to pursue a degree in architecture, he decided that he needed more experience in construction. He began working with a general contractor as a laborer on a large convention center where he quickly was moved to the survey and layout team. This early experience in interpreting the construction documents which had been drawn by an architect into what is built by a general contractor continues to influence how he works through a project. Practical design, the collaboration between the design and construction teams, and open communication of ideas by all of a project’s stakeholders are important aspects of how Chris approaches each design challenge.
